We all display love a little differently.

Some of us like to shower our loved ones with praise and affirmation. Others convey love through physical touch. Some of us want nothing more than to give gifts to the people we care about, whereas others prefer to run errands for friends and loved ones. Of course, some people don’t always display affection overtly but prefer to spend time around the people they love as a means of expressing their investment.

Noting the distinct differences between each of they ‘styles of love’ mentioned above, Gary D. Chapman categorized them into five distinct groups which he now refers to as the Five Love Languages. He discusses each preference at length in his bestselling book ‘The Five Love Languages,’ which is known to have helped many couples and families reconcile their differences and understand the ways in which they each recognize love.

As a Myers-Briggs enthusiast and a great fan of Gary Chapman’s work, I had one burning question to resolve: How does each Myers-Briggs Personality type like to give and receive love?

Curious to discover the answer, I posted a survey to my MBTI Facebook Page, asking participants to identify their Myers-Briggs personality type and then vote on their top one or two love languages. After receiving almost 2500 responses in 48 hours, I was able to compile data on each personality type, to determine how each one likes to give and receive love.

ESTPll

ESTPs show a slight preference for quality time over other love languages – closely followed by acts of service and physical touch.

As natural “doers,” these results certainly fit with the ESTP personality. They want their partners and loved ones to share in the action of everyday life with them. And if they can relieve them of a few of their duties or calm their nerves with a bear hug in the process, all the better.

To show love to an ESTP, make a point to spend one-on-one time with them! Show enthusiasm for their many adventurous undertakings and offer to participate in their favourite activities alongside them. To the ESTP, your willingness to harmonize with their lifestyle goes a long way. This type also appreciates when you help them out with small errands or chores that they are responsible for – they see love as a partnership, which means that each person helps the each other out in small ways. Lastly, this highly physical type appreciates physical touch and affection. Giving them a hug, kiss or massage when they are stressed out will likely work wonders.

Although ESTPs are not known for being verbally affectionate, they are constantly displaying their love in covert ways. They are quick to make time for the people they care about, and to invite them into their worlds. If your ESTP is regularly involving you in activities they care about, chances are you mean something significant to them. This type also showcases their love through alleviating you of responsibilities – they’ll be quick to run an errand or fix a problem that you’re facing for you. At the end of the day, ESTPs are the ultimate ‘showers’ (rather than tellers) when it comes to love – they’ll display their affection and care through actions first and foremost.
